Memory Inspired Art Quilt

Ali’s work “My Father’s Shed” won the Queensland Regional Art Awards (textiles) in 2013  and is touring regional Queensland throughout 2014. Recording a life event, interpreting a photograph, a journey or destination  through the medium of art quilts can be both joyful and poignant.    In this workshop, participants will acquire the knowledge and skills to reflect that experience through art quilt-making. Participants will explore the concept or theme of their event through visual diary exercises and creative play. Fabrics will then be tested, selected or created (using commercial and/or ready-to-dye fabrics) then embellished or printed using various mark making processes. Participants can create a range of individual fabrics or whole cloth. The final day will focus on assemblage and the visual structure and balance of the quilt top as well as hand embellishment and ideas for providing additional texture and stitching/quilting.

The focus of this workshop  is on the exploration and resolution of the participant’s creative ideas from sketch to art quilt. The completed quilt may stand alone or launch a series of further works. This workshop is delivered as six, one-day sessions over three months.  Contact Ali for details.
